In this guide, we will guide you through the setup process to use EventCAT Conference to translate both on-site live audio and the voices of participants joining via Zoomin real-time, using a single laptop.

Requirements

  • OS: macOS

  • Virtual audio device software: Loopback

Setting Up Loopback

  • First, please download the Loopback app from the link below. Loopback is a software application that lets you create virtual audio devices.

  • Once the download is complete, launch the Loopback app.

  • Click the "New Virtual Device" button in the bottom-right corner to create a new virtual device.
  • By default, a Pass-Thru source will be added to the Sources section.

  • To include an external microphone connected to your computer, add that microphone as a Source as well. Since there is no external microphone connected in this guide, we will use the built-in microphone.
  • If you have multiple wired/wireless microphones connected through an audio interface, simply select the audio interface from the Audio Devices section.

That’s all for the Loopback setup.

Setting Up Zoom

  • Join your Zoom meeting.

In the Audio Settings, set the Select a speaker option to the virtual device you just created with Loopback.

Setting Up EventCAT Conference

  • In your macOS System Sound Settings, set both the Input and Output devices to the Loopback virtual device you created earlier.

  • Make sure that the Audio Input in the EventCAT Conference controller page is also set to the virtual device.
  • Click the "Start Session" button in the top right corner to begin the real-time translation session, and test whether both the on-site audio and the Zoom participants’ voices are being successfully translated.
