Intuitive Shortcut Changes & Grammar-Aware Cross-Segment Editing

We've refined our subtitle editor with two essential updates, optimizing both functionality and user experience for our split/merge and shift/pull features.

1. Intuitive Shortcut Changes

For better user experience and ease, we've reallocated default shortcuts for segment functions:

Functionality

Shortcut

Split segment

CTRL + NUM 1

Merge segments

CTRL + NUM 2

Shift word to previous segment

CTRL + NUM 7

Pull word from previous segment

CTRL + NUM 8

Pull word from next segment

CTRL + NUM 9

Shift word to next segment

CTRL + NUM 0

2. Grammar-Aware Capitalization & Period Handling:

Enhance precision and grammatical accuracy of your text with MediaCAT’s new features. When activating certain functions using a [SHIFT] key combination, the MediaCAT editor now ensures correct capitalizations and punctuations for the affected sentences.

As you hold the [SHIFT] key, icons for ‘merge’ and ‘split’ will change, indicating the activation of the grammar-aware mode. Releasing the [SHIFT] key returns the functions to their standard behavior.

The following sections describe what happens when you use adjustment functionalities with the [SHIFT] key held.

Segment Split & Merge:

To split a segment, place the cursor at the desired position and press [SHIFT] + [CTRL] + [NUM 1]. The action divides the segment, adding a period to the original sentence and capitalizing the beginning of the new one.

For merging, the editor adjusts the capitalization of the merged segment's first letter and ensures correct punctuation placement.

Word Pull & Shift:

To pull a word from the second segment, focus on the first segment and press [SHIFT] + [CTRL] + [NUM 9]. The word is adjusted to lowercase, and the sentence in the first segment concludes with a period—eliminating manual corrections.

Similarly, shifting a word to the second segment capitalizes the first letter of the moved word.
